Fluidmesh core wireless technology has been specifically developed for CCTV, security and critical applications. As a consequence, the transmission protocol has been optimized to provide outstanding performances with video streaming.
A unique feature of the Fluidmesh products is the optimization process of the data packets. In a wireless CCTV system there are different types of packets going through the network such as video packets, PTZ control data packets, and management packets between the encoders. Any other wireless product in the market transmits data packets independently from their content. Fluidmesh products analyze every single packet going through the network and, depending on the type, they provide different priority and different reliability to each packet.
Let's take PTZ control as an example. The PTZ control data packets are very small packets that, if not handled properly, can induce a large latency in the system making it very hard to control a PTZ camera. Fluidmesh products give a higher priority to the PTZ control data packets than to the video packets. By doing so, the PTZ control packets are not put in queue with the video but are transmitted right through.
Another example of the packet prioritization process is related to the way the MPEG4 video stream is handled by Fluidmesh products. As you probably know, the MPEG4 is composed by I-frames and by P-frames. The I-frame contains the full image captured by the camera. The P-frame only contains a differential image between two consequent moments in time. Usually there is an I-frame every ten to thirty P-frames. It is fundamental that each I-frame is transmitted properly because a lost I-frame will cause a large drop in the quality of the video. In some cases, it will even cause the decoder to disconnect from the encoder leading loss of video for one or two minutes. On the other hand, losing a P-frame does not cause any noticeable difference in the video quality because the human eye cannot detect the difference, for example, between a 19 frame per second and a 20 frame per second stream. Fluidmesh products give a higher reliability to the I-frames and a lower reliability to the P-frames. By doing so, if an I-frame is lost, it will be retransmitted multiple time. On the other hand, if a P-frame is lost, it won't be retransmitted. This will avoid an over-congestion of the network without affecting the quality of the video.
The optimization and prioritization analysis carried out by Fluidmesh products generate a tangible improvement in the quality and robustness of the wireless network which will be perceived by the end user as well. No other wireless product line in the market has such fine-grained optimization systems because there is no other wireless manufacturer so focused on video-related applications.
